“Every life is a piece of art, put together with all means available.” – Pierre Janet
What can I expect from individual therapy?
Individual therapy is a place where you can unburden yourself and be yourself in a way that you may not have an opportunity to do in any of your other relationships. Being appreciated and understood in this unique way can be not only a powerful catalyst for change, but also a huge relief from the distress you have been experiencing.
Having the undivided attention of another person whose only goal is to help you improve your life is a unique and powerful experience. As a result of individual therapy you may discover valuable parts of yourself that were lost or dormant. Such inward discoveries can lead to more satisfying connections with others.
Please know that it is my goal to help you in the most efficient way possible. That being said, I see the most benefits for my clients when they come regularly for a period of time. A period of time by no means has to be years, but coming regularly over the course of at least a number of months allows us to more fully address the issues that are bothering you and helps to create lasting changes. My intention is that every session we have is in some way useful to you.
Individual therapy can help you:
- Find new meaning in old conflicts
- Look at the problems in your life in different ways
- Be more accepting of others
- Function in a more goal directed way
- Become more like the person you want to be
- Cope with the challenges of life more comfortably
My approach as a therapist
While I have learned many important things in my education to be a therapist in Denver, I believe that who I am as a person is what guides me most in my work. I greatly value interacting with others in a way that demonstrates hope, respect, and thoughtfulness, and strive to demonstrate these values in my Denver mental health counseling practice.
I have a deep-rooted interest in human psychology, whether that comes in the form of a conversation I overhear at a restaurant, a book of literature I have read, a film I have seen, a professional seminar I have attended, the progress of one of my clients in therapy, a hard-won lesson I have learned in my own life, or reading about a particular therapy method.
I have studied many of the field’s different therapy approaches and am passionate about understanding the common factors between them. I believe there is great value for my clients when I am able to think in this broader way rather than adhering to one particular therapeutic model. By working with me at my Denver individual therapy practice, you will be benefiting from my years of personal and professional study of human behavior delivered in a way that will be most relevant to you.
